Ebony Morris, 11, Competes in USA Judo Junior Olympics

Eleven-year-old Ebony Morris won four matches at the USA Judo Junior Olympics in June in Irving, Texas, before losing to Hannah Wagner from Florida, who outweighed her by 60 pounds.Ebony is from Oakland and is a member of the Hanabi Judo Club in Albany. She is the California State Champion in her weight class, taking the gold in May at the State Championships.She has been studying the sport for three under Dan Augustine.
“Ebony is a very smart girl; she understands it is not just about winning but being a good person as well,” said Augustine. “She is very focused and intense, which adds to her great athletic abilities.
“I have worked with thousands of students over the years, and Ebony is just one of the special ones. She has the talent to go further than I ever did, and I look forward to working with her each step of the way.”
