500 San Francisco homeless children and their families will enjoy the holiday at a celebration in their honor Thursday, Dec. 12 hosted by nonprofit Compass Family Services and supported by more than 100 local volunteers, tech companies and businesses across the city.

Local tech companies will put a high-tech twist on the holiday celebration by leading hands-on activities with hundreds of homeless children that incorporate their technologies and engineering know-how.

This year, through its annual Adopt-a-Family project, Compass Family Services is pairing local individual and group donors with needy families who lack the resources to buy holiday gifts. For many of these 400 families, these gifts are the only ones they will receive this holiday season.

Compass Family Services is a 100-year-old nonprofit that focuses exclusively on providing families who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, with the tools, programs and services they need to achieve self-sufficiency and a healthier quality of life

The agency services the City of San Francisco’s family shelter system, manages the city’s family shelter waiting list, and serves as the single access point for services for any San Francisco family facing a housing crisis.
