Vallejo Sports Hall of Fame Honors City’s Rich Sports History

The 11th annual Vallejo Sports Hall of Fame will induct new members in the 2014 Sports Hall of Fame Saturday, March 1 celebrating the city’s rich sports history at the Dan Foley Cultural Center, 1499 N. El Camino Alto in Vallejo.

Hosted by the Greater Vallejo Recreation District (GVRD), the event is a fundraiser for the Vallejo Youth Sports programs with GVRD. The Vallejo Sports Hall of Fame has inducted over 100 athletes from local schools and colleges at its annual ceremony.

< p>The event is known as a night for the legends of athletes to come together and talk about the “good ole days,” focusing on producing future legends in Vallejo’s youth. Attendees have the opportunity to meet local star athletes and contribute to a great cause.

This year’s inductees include: Demetrius Davis-basketball; Jim Davis-basketball; Royan Hammond-boxing; Rusty McManus-football; Roni Sparrey-softball; Cliff Stroughter-football; Barton Williams-track; Coach Bob LaBelle; Coach John Baptista; the 1956 Vallejo Junior College Basketball Team; and special achievements to race car driver Pat Hughes, and the 1960-61 Vallejo High Cheer Squad- John, Dick, Steve, Gary and Mike.

The event starts at 3:30 p.m. with a social hour and silent auction. Dinner and the ceremony will follow at 6 p.m. with MC Steve Mortara.
