The Vallejo Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People will host a day celebrating King’s life and reiterating the need to serve the community.
Themed “Not a Day Off, a Day On — a Day to Serve”, the local branch encourages community members to come out and honor the memory of Dr. King.
“It’s a way to celebrate his birthday and an opportunity to bring people together,” said Jimmie Jackson, president of the Vallejo Branch of the NAACP, in an interview with the Times-Herald.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 19 and the march will start at the corner of Tennessee and Tuolumne streets.
Marchers will make their way to Hogan Middle School, 850 Rosewood Avenue, where an official program is scheduled to begin around 10:30.
