This weekend, Qilombo will be hosting Keep Warm: The Bay!—a two-day winter gear drive to collect donation items and distribute them to local homeless people living in West Oakland.
The two-day event will be held at Qilombo, located at 2313 San Pablo Ave in Oakland, on Saturday, Jan. 2 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday, Jan. 3 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The event will consist of a fundraising benefit concert on Saturday, featuring performances by many local Bay Area artists, where people are encouraged to drop off warm-wear items—such as coats, sleeping bags, gloves, sweaters, jackets and hats—canned food, hygiene items—like toothbrushes and baby wipes—or monetary donations.
Partial proceeds from the event will also go towards purchasing distribution items for the following day.
Qilombo will then open its doors on Sunday to a public community gathering with live music where the donated items and “Keep Warm Kits” will be distributed to the local homeless community.
As One Charity, along with Love Always Foundation and So Oakland, are linking with several organizations to put on this annual event to fulfill their mission of supplying as many homeless people in the Bay Area as possible with “Keep Warm Kits,” blankets, hygiene kits and food.
“The need for warm-wear items during winter is critical for the homeless community as many die each year from hypothermia and other cold weather related illnesses,” according to As One Charity.
“This year as we bring the campaign to the Bay Area we hope that with your help, at least 300 people will receive necessary winter provisions!”
