As Black History Month comes to a close, a plethora of honors were awarded Tuesday night to several deserving Oakland leaders for their accomplishments in promoting positive change in the fields of social justice, art, business and faith.

Those who were honored for their leadership were: rapper and community activist Stanley “Mistah F.A.B.” Cox; PolicyLink founder and president Angela Glover Blackwell; former Oakland Raiders player Clem Daniels; owner and executive chef of Brown Sugar Kitchen and B-Side BBQ Tanya Holland; music producer Terrence Butler, AKA “Mr. Community”; Mason Tillman & Associates president Dr. Eleanor Ramsey; Oakland Treasury Manager Katano Kasaine; Oakland City Clerk LaTonda Simmons; the Roots Community Health Center in East Oakland; and, East Oakland Youth Development Center CEO Regina Jackson.

Family and community members crowded the City Council chambers to celebrate their acknowledgement by the city as council members presented honors to the African American leaders.

The Black History Month awards were celebrated in conjunction with two other city honors Tuesday night.

The McClymonds High School Warriors were honored by the city for their victory at the California Division 5A Championship, and the Bishop O’Dowd football team was also recognized for winning first place at the California Division 5AA Championship.
