Love Your Block mini-grant recipient Lizabeth Lubin held a Community Build Day Sunday, April 30 to expand the garden she maintains at 18th Street and the Richmond Greenway.

“It’s incredible to see the change that this garden has made in the activities that take place on the Greenway,” said Lubin.

Volunteers weeded and prepped the new garden area, cut and sanded wood, and built a planter box that will house vegetables and edible flowers. This coming Saturday, May 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Lubin will host another community event where she plans to build five more boxes.

She hopes to engage local families in adopting a planter box where they will be able to grow their own vegetables. Regardless, the community is welcome to all the produce the 18th Street Peace Garden cultivates, she said.

“My hope is that through its beauty the garden provides moments of peace and solace to those who pass through it”.
