The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints (LDS) announced a donation of 10 million dollars and plans to join other community organizations in the Salt Lake Valley to respond to those who experience homelessness.

Funds for the donation come from the Humanitarian Aid Fund of the Church — a fund that comes from donations of Church members who have designated their donation for humanitarian purposes — and will be used to contribute to the construction and development of housing in the Salt Lake area.

For the past three decades the nonprofit organization Shelter the Homeless has been coordinating efforts to aid individuals and families experiencing homelessness. The Church plans to continue to partner with community organizations who are working to help those in need by elevating their circumstances.
