Curry unveils new education lab at Bushrod Recreation Center

Oakland – Almost a year ago today, Stephen Curry along with Under Armour and Chase teamed up to refurbish a state of the art new gymnasium for the kids at Bushrod Recreation Center located in North Oakland, Ca.

The project was an opportunity for kids to play basketball in a brand new gym.  Curry’s main goal for the center is to help all kids grow personally, physically and mentally.  Both Curry and Under Armour are committed to focusing on the mentor-ship, education and physical activity for all kids.

This year, Steph and his wife, Ayesha Curry teamed up with Under Armour, Chase and Heart of America to launch, the Stephen and Ayesha Curry Family Foundation Education Lab.  A remodel of the learning center was designed to enhance education while having fun at the same time.  Curry mentioned last year that he wants the best for the youth and he continues to do just that.

The new lab features quotes from several famous people including;

Barak Obama – We need to internalize this idea of excellence.  Not many folks spend a lot of time trying to be excellent.”

May Angelou – “Nothing can dim the light that shines within”

Stephen Curry – “Be the best version of your self in anything you do.  You don’t have to live anybody else’s story.”

The lab has brand new furniture, brand new laptop, headsets, printers, a gaming station for kids to take a break and unwind in a safe place.  There’s also enough space for children to do multiple things like watch programs on the new 65 inch flatscreen TV, read in a quiet place and eat lunch peacefully.

The ribbon cutting ceremony included words from Curry; Nicholas Williams, Director of Oakland Park, Recreation & Youth Development; Oakland District 1 Council member Dan Kalb; Jill Heath, President and CEO of Heart of America; and Frank Nakano, Managing Director of JPMorgan Chase Sports & Entertainment. Students in attendance were also gifted a suite of product from Stephen and Under Armour, including Curry 5 footwear. Students will be able to use the space immediately – for school projects, for creative outlets, for socializing and much more.

Curry also had some top high school guards who attended his camp to help with drills.  Kids learned how to dribble, pass, do layups and get coached by the best in the league.  The two-time MVP and three-time NBA Champion Steph Curry stayed on the court the entire time to assist with the drills.
