San Francisco, CA – The first win of the month comes on the heels of Chris Stratton’s complete game shutout.  The Giants 2-0 win over the Rockies was just like winning the World Series.

San Francisco had ended their eleven-game losing streak.  The  longest losing streak of the season and the longest losing skid since April 19-29, 1951.  Stratton recorded his first complete game and proved he was worth the call-up.

“I’m glad he (Giants manager Bruce Bochy) gave me the chance to go back out there and do it,” Stratton said.

Back in early July Colorado got the best of Stratton, scoring eight runs over six frames.  That earned him a demotion to Triple-A Sacramento.  Stratton was called up from double-A Richmond on August 21st.

Bochy on Stratton’s shutout win:

Stratton tossed nine innings, allowed two hits, two walks and struck out seven.  He was absolutely phenomenal.  San Francisco backed him up with a few runs earned in the second frame.

Nick Hundley and Joe Panik hit back-to-back singles. A wild pitch advanced both runners with one out.  Austin Slater cleared the bases with a RBI driving in both Hundley and Panik to make it a 2-0 game.

The Rockies who currently hold the top spot in the National West struggled against Stratton.  Only two hits with no runs was not the same team from July who demolished the Giants 8-1.  Stratton stayed simple with his fastball and great defense from the team.

“They’re a great lineup,” said Stratton.  “They hit some balls hard tonight, they just happened to go right to some people.  It has to be kind of a perfect storm sometimes.”

One defensive play kept Colorado off the board.  Gregor Blanco’s leaping catch at the wall prevented a run by the Rockies.  A leadoff single by Charlie Blackmon to start the sixth.  Arenado’s possible double was reduced to a line out for the second out.  Blanco is no stranger to winning pennants, he thought tonight was a big win.

“It seems like we just won a World Series or something like that,” Blanco said.  “This season has been a lot of ups and downs.  But at the end of the day we still have to play and have fun.”
