Oakland resident Georgia Taylor will celebrate her 101st birthday on Sept. 13.

Born in Tulsa, Oklahoma to parents Monroe and Pearlie Younger, she is one of nine siblings. She married Luther McNair in 1932 and from their union six children were born. Her oldest child is 85 years old and lives in Sacramento.

During World War II, she worked for the government making rivets for airplanes.  She also worked as a maid and cook.

Taylor serves as a minister and a member of Prayer Mission Pentecostal Church in Oakland.  She has helped her family, members of the church and the community in many ways, including teaching, preaching and counseling.

“God has been extra good to me,” said Taylor.

She still enjoys gardening and cooking and is active in church every Sunday assisting with the Lord’s supper and praying for the sick and needy.

Georgia Taylor has 24 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren and 38 great-great grandchildren.
