“When God called him, He equipped him,” said keynote speaker Dr. John Allen Anthony Harris, D.R.E., President of Pneuma Theological Seminary in Oakland.

In a spirit of authentic appreciation, the greater Oakland community along with Williams Chapel clergy, deacons and members celebrated with words, music, and prayer, the 7th Pastoral Anniversary Sept. 21.

The Reverend Dr. Kenneth J. L. Anderson, Senior Pastor of Williams Chapel Baptist Church in Oakland, is a young man “with an old soul,” said Dr. Harris. Many echoed that sentiment.

Bishop Simmons of Greater St. Paul summed up Dr. Anderson’s leadership: “It is time to work, to get outside the walls and show what amazing grace is all about,” he said.

The church is developing affordable senior housing, hosts community forums attended by professionals and politicians alike, and pastors an active and growing congregation. Retired Judge Horace Wheatley, who was a friend  of  Dr. Anderson’s grandfather, said “he’s doing what needs to be done for folks who can’t do it for themselves.”

In the spirit in which he leads, Dr. Anderson closed the evening saying, “Thank God for right now.” And the church said, “Amen.”
